My First Two Weeks Using Huel

A few weeks ago, I was sitting in a meeting with my company, discussing dog food and human nutrition. I made a comment along the lines of .. ” I wish it was as easy for humans to eat as it is for dogs. One scoop in the morning, one at night, done. All vitamins, nutrients, calories, and macros.”

A co-worker chimed in and said ” it is. It’s called Huel.” He then proceeded to bring me a bag from his office. He brought me a big white bag with bold lettering “Huel” down the side. He eats this powdery substance five times per day, with fresh fruits and veggies in between as snacks.

For someone who is NOT good at nutrition, is ALWAYS on the go, and could stand to lose a few pounds (okay, like 30) – Huel seemed like a God send.

Huel Powder is a nutritionally complete powdered food that is high in protein and fiber, low in sugar and salt, rich in phytonutrients, and contains a balanced macro split of 37:30:30:3 (carbohydrate, protein, fat, fiber) and all 27 essential vitamins and minerals. I drink one shake in the morning and one at night. Mornings and evenings are typically my busiest time of the day, so I find that Huel actually makes those times much easier for me. I don’t have to worry about making anything or running through the drive through for something unhealthy. I eat a normal lunch and snacks every day. Simply add two scoops, cold water, and shake!

After my first two weeks of Huel, I lost 9.6 pounds. Keep in mind that I was not doing any kind of dieting or being very conscious of my eating habits before this, which is likely why the weight came off so quickly in the beginning. I have continued to lose weight, not as quickly as I did in the very beginning, but still dropping!

Not going to lie, the first day I tried a Huel shake, I thought I was going to vomit, but I persisted. It got better and better as my body got used to it. I can now drink the shakes with ease. I have chocolate and vanilla flavored powder with the Caramel flavor boost to add to the vanilla!

The most surprising thing about Huel to me is that I stay full. I could even skip my snacks and still feel full. Aside from the weight loss, my skin has cleared up, and I feel better overall. Exercising is easier, and even though I “feel full” as in “I’m not hungry” – I don’t have that “I ate too much” full feeling.
